I am very new to WordPress. The footer will not show up in a boilerplate theme I have. I've looked online for hours.

Here is my footer.php file:

<?php
/**
 * The template for displaying the footer.
 *
 * Contains the closing of the id=main div and all content
 * after. Calls sidebar-footer.php for bottom widgets.
 *
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage Boilerplate
 * @since Boilerplate 1.0
 */
?>
        </section><!-- #main -->

        <footer role="contentinfo">

            <a href="<?php echo home_url( '/' ) ?>" title="<?php echo esc_attr( get_bloginfo( 'name', 'display' ) ); ?>" rel="home"><?php bloginfo( 'name' ); ?></a>
            <a href="http://wordpress.org/" title="Semantic Personal Publishing Platform" rel="generator">Proudly powered by WordPress </a>
        </footer><!-- footer -->
<?php
    /* Always have wp_footer() just before the closing </body>
     * tag of your theme, or you will break many plugins, which
     * generally use this hook to reference JavaScript files.
     */
    wp_footer("new");
?>

    </body>
</html>

here is my loop.php file (not sure if you'll need this):

<?php
/**
 * The loop that displays posts.
 *
 * The loop displays the posts and the post content. See
 * http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop to understand it and
 * http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags to understand
 * the tags used in it.
 *
 * This can be overridden in child themes with loop.php or
 * loop-template.php, where 'template' is the loop context
 * requested by a template. For example, loop-index.php would
 * be used if it exists and we ask for the loop with:
 * <code>get_template_part( 'loop', 'index' );</code>
 *
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage Boilerplate
 * @since Boilerplate 1.0
 */
?>

<?php /* Display navigation to next/previous pages when applicable */ ?>

    </nav><!-- #nav-above -->

            <?php get_search_form(); ?>
        </div><!-- .entry-content -->
    </article><!-- #post-0 -->
<?php endif; ?>

<?php

 * In Twenty Ten we use the same loop in multiple contexts.
 * It is broken into three main parts: when we're displaying

 * Additionally, we sometimes check for whether we are on an

Is the footer not showing up on any page or are there specific pages where it is not working? Have you tried replacing the wp_footer("new") line in footer.php with wp_footer() –  bungeshea Jan 15 at 6:21

have you enabled DEBUG codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress and what are the error messages? what does show in the html code of your static pages in the browser? –  Michael Jan 15 at 14:47
