WordPress Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am using wp 3.8 the default .htaccess code, displays only broken images in WPMU subdomains. I tried to modify the RewriteRule to:

RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/$2 [L]

but this only works with one of the subdomains-- not 3 or 4 subdomains. Here is the current .htaccess code:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /wpmu/

RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

# uploaded files
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]

# add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^ - [L]

RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L]

RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L]

RewriteRule . index.php [L]

</IfModule>
  1. try to fix the rewrite rule
  2. also looking into the wp-admin.php/sites.php -- to modify

none of these steps worked, at least from my minimal understanding. Can anybody help me out to resolve the issue on images not display on WPMU subdomains?
