how do i change current menu item names?

I have a form that gets the new names the user chose from front.

I can not find anywhere a function that handles it.

this function:

returns an error that says there is no such function.

Should I change the information directly in the database?

Or is there a simpler way to do this?

I you are running > 3.6 that function should be available. You are probably trying to use it too early. Post your code please. – s_ha_dum Dec 25 '13 at 17:28
its not short, and i dont care using somone elses code. im not fixd on that function. im willing to use alterntivs like editing database rows, but i cant find whre wordpress saves that data. about too early, ill try to fix it,it calls the code on init. – rolen Dec 25 '13 at 17:33
Your comment is hard to follow (and you should clean up the question as well) but the problem is with your code. If you don't post it, the question is hard to answer. – s_ha_dum Dec 25 '13 at 17:41
