I'm experiencing a little problem with registration and usernames, spaces in username are sanitized to
-, but the user doesn't know, even the default activation email doesn't contain the username.
I'm a very newbie of WP so any advice about best pratices, hooks, templates, files and functions to modify are very welcome.
I see some solution (but maybe there are more, please let me know)
Give the user a realtime feedback of the sanitized username
I know how to implement this with Html/Php/Ajax but how to integrate it with WP?
A new php file as ajax backend? What are minimal requirements to use a WP function like
sanitize_userin a new file?
Alternatives? There's already some hook and no new files are required?
Reject usernames with un-sanitized chars (or just spaces), how to?
At least let the user know by the email.
- this could be a start and seem easy, is probably a must anyway, but I would prefer to implement one of the other solution also.
I'm using WP 3.7.1, buddypress 1.8.1, bbpress 2.4.1 and seen the comments I (currently) guess it is buddypress that limit usernames chars (because are used for Url?).
- Could be safe to enable spaces in user names?
This seem a good start for realtime feedback How to check username availability with ajax at registration
buddypress 1.9 allow username with spaces.
