I installed WordPress 3.5.2 on an Amazon EC2 micro instance. After installing and activating the Contact Form 7 plugin, I configured this plugin by putting my gmail address in the
Mail To settings of the plugin, then tested the form by pasting
[contact-form-7 id="17" title="Contact form 1"] in my page and submitting my comment, but I got the following error:
Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.
Is this error caused by my EC2 security group? (please see below)
Ports Protocol Source 20-21 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 22 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 80 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 13000-13050 tcp 0.0.0.0/0
Or is this error related to this default restriction on sending email from an instance? I read that one possible solution is to install WP-Mail-SMTP. I was looking at the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin screenshot and it appears to require a port number. I did not initially configure a port for this during the setup of my EC2 instance and I'm thinking this plugin would not work unless I create another instance with a new security policy (since I cannot edit my current security policy). My Akismet is disabled.
Any assistance with helping me understand the cause of this error will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
