<?php
/*
Template Name: New Post
*/
?>

<?php get_header(); ?>

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
<?php get_footer(); ?>

this is the code. What is the problem???

did you create a page in admin and assign this template to that page? –  Milo Jul 11 '13 at 0:04

The PHP is not executing. Where did you upload this? What is the URL? –  s_ha_dum Jul 11 '13 at 0:22

How did you upload it? With FTP, or through the Wordpress admin? If the latter, try the former. –  Steve Jul 11 '13 at 4:47

You need upload this trending.php file into your FTP theme folder

/wp-content/themes/YOURTHEMEFOLDERNAME/trending.php

Once you upload this file into your theme folder location then Login to Wordpress admin and go Pages->New Page

On Right side Page Template Dropdown you should see "New Post" as a new page template, so you need select that "New Post" as the Page template and browse the Page once Publish. and it should work.

Its not only creating a file and browse that page via URL to see the page working.
