I'm trying out the Ultimate Taxonomy Manager plugin, and I would like to run "cascading" queries against taxonomy metadata.

For example, I'm defining ad unit IDs that can be overridden on a per-category basis. I would like to quickly check if a particular category or any ancestor categories has an ad unit ID defined. This is handled elegantly (in a single query; no recursion) with nested set descriptors.

Does anyone know of a plugin that caches taxonomy lft/rgt descriptors, and--if not--how could I hook into taxonomy updates to do so manually?
