I'm using Tom McFarlin's Plugin Boilerplate, and I'm facing this huge problem where I can't update an option when the publish_post action is fired.

I have a function that hooks into the publish post action and all it does is update an option.

This wasn't even my original task. What I wanted to do was call a private function from within the function mentioned above, that would update the option.

That didn't work out so I got down to updating the option from within the public function itself.

Here's the code, and if someone can help me out with not just this, but also how to use the private function it would really bail me out.

P.S.: the_content filter works, but the publish_post action does not work.

I've left the line which calls the private function commented out, so that you can test my two issues separately.

It looks like you have class methods here without a class. Is that just a copy & paste issue? –  Matthew Boynes May 25 '13 at 22:05

Also, is this a post, page, or custom post type? And have you tried save_post instead of publish_post? –  Matthew Boynes May 25 '13 at 22:19

it was a copy paste issue, i missed out the line where the class is declared at the beginning, and yes i have tried save post, it still does not respond. This is a post. @Matthew Boynes –  user1895623 May 26 '13 at 8:59
